Cast Wax Candle No. 1, 2026 - Black

$108.00

Cast directly from a hand-carved ceramic sculpture. Wire and blade drawn through clay until the form is revealed, not made. Twisted from the inside, put under stress, the fissures you see in the wax are the clay's own record of the process.

It is designed to disappear.

Live with it first. Put it somewhere and let it be an object. When you're ready, light it. That is the point.

Material: soy beeswax blend, cotton wick

  • Liz Wycherley (b. 1983) is a New Zealand ceramicist based in Titirangi, Auckland. Her practice operates at the intersection of sculptural object-making and collectible design.

Working primarily in raku-fired clay, Wycherley builds each piece through direct carving, excavating form from solid blocks of raw material without wheel or mould. The process is irreversible and unrepeatable. Every surface carries the visible record of the carving, the forming and the fire. No two pieces are identical.

Prior to her current practice, Wycherley co-founded Post Objects in collaboration with Simon Oosterdijk. Their work has been distributed internationally through SSENSE and included collaborations with CompletedWorks.
